Progressive Orgs Seek to Bar Trump From Office Through State Elections Officials

Progressive organizations Our Revolution and Free Speech for People are encouraging elections officials in 10 states to deem current and former lawmakers involved in the January 6 Capitol attack as insurrectionists that are unfit to serve in office ever again, per rules set in the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. The organizations sent letters to secretaries of state in Arizona, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Ohio, Oregon and Pennsylvania. North Carolina Newspaper Editorial Board Decries Madison Cawthorn as “Abhorrent”

A North Carolina newspaper issued a scathing editorial this weekend, condemning the state’s Republican Party for the “despicable rhetoric” pushed by far right lawmakers, including Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R). The Durham Herald Sun editorial board denounced Cawthorn’s comments and conspiracy theories, noting that, in his less than two years in Congress, Cawthorn has “frequently ma[de] national headlines for all the wrong reasons.” They also rebuked Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson, the highest-ranking Republican in the state’s executive branch, for making similarly distasteful and incendiary comments while in office. Lawsuit Alleges 3 Lawmakers, Part of Trump Electors Plot, Cannot Run for Office

A group of citizens from Wisconsin — as well as a brewing company in the state — are suing to disqualify three Republican candidates for office, arguing that they played a role in trying to overturn the 2020 presidential election and thus aided and engaged in an insurrection against the United States. The lawsuit requests that a federal judge rule that Republican Reps. Tom Tiffany and Scott Fitzgerald, as well as Republican Sen. Ron Johnson, are insurrectionists.
