Dark Money Groups Are Scheming to Bring Down Biden’s Student Debt Relief Plan

Republican attorneys general and corporate advocacy groups are exploring ways to sue the Biden administration over its newly announced plan to cancel $10,000 in federal student loan debt for most borrowers, hoping the conservative-packed U.S. judiciary will strike down the executive action and deny badly needed relief to around 40 million people. Shortly after President Joe Biden announced his debt forgiveness plan, the Job Creators Network — a dark money organization representing business groups and executives — declared that it is “weighing its legal options to block President Biden’s illegal student loan bailout,” calling the move “executive overreach.” Americans for…

Charity That Backs Trump’s Election Lies Has Ties to the Texas Attorney General

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is pretty familiar with Catherine Engelbrecht. He’s been a guest on her podcast, chatting about their shared passion: rooting out voter fraud. They both have gone to great lengths to try to support former President Donald Trump’s lie that the 2020 election was stolen. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) is suing the Biden administration over an executive order that guarantees an emergency abortion to every patient who requires one, no matter what restrictions on the procedure are in place in any given state. Although abortion is severely curtailed in Texas under a restrictive 1925 law that recently went into effect, the procedure is still currently allowed in the state for those necessitating emergency lifesaving care. However, Paxton’s lawsuit could pave the way for Texas and other states to deny such care to people whose pregnancies are putting their lives at risk. Paxton defended…

Texas Is Already Investigating Families With Trans Kids, Lawsuit Shows

A lawsuit filed on behalf of a transgender girl living in Texas reveals that officials in the state have already begun the process of investigating families that are providing their children with gender-affirming care. Last week, Gov. Greg Abbott (R-Texas) issued an order directing the Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) to “conduct prompt and thorough investigations of any reported instances of Texas children being subjected to abusive gender-transitioning procedures.” The order came days after Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) filed a legal opinion which incorrectly claimed that gender-affirming “procedures and treatments…when performed on children, can legally constitute…
