Computers you could buy in 1979

  • Apple II: Released in 1977, the Apple II was one of the first personal computers, to quickly gain popularity. One of the reasons for its popularity was its relative ease of use. With the PC you got a few software programs, including BASIC, a popular programming language at that time.
  • Commodore PET:  Another popular PC released in 1977 was The Commodore PET , designed for home use. This was an all-in-one personal computer, with a built-in monitor, keyboard, and cassette tape drive.

  • TRS-80: Tandy Corporation also released the The TRS-80 in 1977. The TRS-80 was a lower cost personal computer and, with it’s ease of use, quickly became popular among hobbyists and students.
